Northumberland Ferries Limited (“NFL”) is seeking applications for a Human Resources Coordinator. This is a year-round, full-time, excluded position primarily located in Charlottetown, PEI with regular travel to Wood Islands, PEI from May to November. This position will also require occasional travel to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

NFL and its sister companies, Bay Ferries Limited (“BFL”) and Bay Ferries Management Limited (“BFML”), operate and maintain ferries, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety and environmental protection. Our group of companies is recognized as an efficient, competent, and innovative ferry service provider. We have a small, capable, multi-functional management team, assisted by more than 300 direct employees, and various specialized sub-contractors. While you will be an employee of NFL, your duties will also entail working for BFL and BFML.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resources Coordinator’s primary responsibilities relate to the recruitment and retention of employees. They will also provide administrative assistance in a variety of human resources functions as may be required. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.

Recruitment:

• Coordinating full cycle recruitment for employees and cadets, including developing job descriptions, posting job ads, attending recruitment fairs, conducting pre-screening assessments, scheduling interviews, verifying documents, and checking references.
• Assisting with onboarding and orientation for new employees.
• Tracking probationary hours and assisting managers with probation and performance reviews.

Engagement:

• Assisting with diversity, inclusion, equity, and employee recognition initiatives and responding to regulatory requirements
• Coordinating group education sessions and individual training fund requests.
• Assisting managers with crew scheduling, interpretation of collective agreement language, attendance management, leave requests, illness and injury claims, and accommodation requests.

Human Resources:

• Assisting with maintenance of employee records, spreadsheets, and the Human Resource Information System.
• Providing administrative assistance with workplace investigations, grievance processes, and collective bargaining.
• Other support functions as required.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

• University degree or college diploma in human resources and/or equivalent related experience.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in positions with human resource duties.
• Minimum of one year experience in recruitment.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, including writing and data analysis skills.
• Ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment requiring prioritization and adaptation.
• Demonstrates confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience in payroll and/or benefits administration is an asset.
• Knowledge of the marine industry is an asset.
• Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
• Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code is an asset.
