A November to Remember in the Maritimes
The weather might be cooling down, but the fun is just heating up here in the Maritimes. Here are a few ways to make the most of your November getaway on the East Coast.
Fall is in the air, the holidays are on the horizon, and we’re gearing up for a fantastic November here in the Maritimes. This is truly one of the best seasons for exploring and enjoying everything our neck of the woods has to offer. Whether you’re visiting us from afar or looking for some fresh stay-cation ideas right here at home, we have a few suggestions to ensure it’s a November to remember.
Get in the Spirit of the Season at a Holiday Parade
November is a time that’s always buzzing with excitement. After all, the holidays are just around the corner! This is when communities are gearing up for their holiday parades — colourful displays full of fun and music for the entire family. Plus, there’s always an appearance by a certain bearded gift giver and his reindeer! If you’re in Saint John, the Santa Claus Parade will be taking place on November 16th. If you’re taking a trip to Charlottetown on the PEI ferry, their Christmas Parade is on November 30th. And if you find yourself in Halifax, the Parade of Lights will be happening on November 16th. As an added bonus, if you have some extra energy to burn before the Halifax parade, register for the 5th annual Red Nose Run. At 2.5km in length, this run is suitable for the entire family.
Watch the Stars of Tomorrow Hit the Ice
If you’re a hockey fan, the Maritimes are definitely the right place for you. Some of the biggest stars in the game got their start here, and your family and friends are sure to treat you like an MVP (most valuable planner) if you take them to a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) game. The Maritimes division plays host to six fantastic teams, including the Halifax Mooseheads, the Saint John Sea Dogs, the Charlottetown Islanders, the Cape Breton Eagles, the Moncton Wildcats, and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Whether you’re a sports fan, or just looking for the perfect outing on a November afternoon, a QMJHL game will definitely be on your highlight reel.
A Spirited Saturday in Charlottetown
Raise a glass to an amazing getaway in Charlottetown at the PEI Spirits Festival. Taking place on November 16th, this festival showcases some of the most unique, high-end spirits in the world. There will be scotch from Scotland, gin from Japan, rum from Guyana, and more on this veritable world tour! You’ll have an opportunity to sample spirits, share laughs, and if you find something that really hits the spot, shop limited quantities for your own private collection.
Walk the Gingerbread Trail in Uptown Saint John
A holiday-season tradition in Saint John, the Gingerbread Trail has been putting smiles on the faces of locals and visitors alike for many years. Businesses throughout Uptown Saint John create their very own hand-made gingerbread delights — putting them on display for all to see. Grab a holiday cookie and a cup of hot chocolate and embrace the sights and sounds of the season, all while discovering just how creative Maritimers can be. Once you’ve seen them all, be sure to vote for your favourite in Market Square! This event starts on November 25th and runs throughout the holiday season.
Let’s Give Them Something to Taco ‘Bout
Do you have a craving for tasty tacos? Then you’ll want to be in Halifax from November 14th through the 20th for the first annual Halifax Taco Week. This city-wide taco celebration will put the spotlight on Halifax’s creative culinary professionals as they serve tasty variations on your hard and soft-shell favourites. You’ll find taco specials all over the city, some of which start at $5. Best of all, this is for a good cause — when you purchase select tacos, a percentage of proceeds will be donated to Feed Nova Scotia. We can’t wait for Taco Tuesday to last all week long!
Transform November into Let’s Go-vember
November is shaping up to be quite a month here on the East Coast of Canada, and there’s still plenty of time to get in on the fun. While you explore the Maritimes this fall, be sure to include a fun (and convenient) trip aboard the ferry. We can’t wait to see all of you out here making it a November to Remember!
