March Break in New Brunswick

From skiing to swimming, sweets to the cinema, here are seven super suggestions for March break family fun in New Brunswick

If you’re searching for winter activities that will be exciting for your kids (and fun for you, too), then New Brunswick is the answer to your March Break prayers. Here are seven suggestions to entertain, educate, and engage the entire family:

Head for the Hills

Ski hills, that is! (Actually, we should probably say “head for the mountains”, because New Brunswick has some pretty epic elevations.) Poley Mountain is open from 9:00am – 9:00pm, which is a good thing, since there are a whopping 31 trails to try. Plus, there’s still time and space to join one of Poley’s March Break Camps.

Located halfway between Fredericton and Woodstock, Crabbe Mountain has the largest vertical in the Maritimes, as well as some of the best terrain in Atlantic Canada. And Sugarloaf Park is home to 12 alpine ski trails, a half-pipe for snowboarding, cross-country trails, a sliding hill for tubing and tobogganing, ice skating, and over 1,100 hectares of terrain that’s ideal for show-shoeing.

Take the Plunge

Every Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00pm, the Canada Games Aquatic Centre in Saint John hosts an Ultimate Swim—and this popular swim has been extended every day during March Break. Not only is the leisure pool, tots pool, and 50m competition pool open for swimming, but there are also slides, diving boards, pool toys, and a Tarzan rope. After all that activity, unwind and relax in the Centre’s hot tubs, steam room, and sauna.

Get a Little Wild

The largest of its kind in Atlantic Canada, Magnetic Hill Zoo offers a unique opportunity to see animals in a wintery setting through its Sunday Winter Openings program. Keep an eye out for bears, deer, condors, cougars, lions, caribou, and more, while visiting other animals in the Ecodome and the Imaginarium, or playing in the onsite playground. Admission is only $3 and children under the age of four get in for free. (Also free? Hot chocolate for the entire family, no matter how old or young-at-heart you may be.)

Lights, Camera, Movies!

Take the show on the road, and see a show on the silver screen. In addition to its weekly Family Favourites schedule, Cineplex is featuring specially priced March Break Movies. Four family-favourite movies will be shown every day, starting at 11:00am, and admission is only $2.99 each. Choose from The Grinch, PAW Patrol: Mighty Pups, Smallfoot, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Go on a Sweet Retreat

Kings Landing may not officially open its doors until June 8, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take part in some pretty sweet events now! On March 9-10 and 16-17, each day from 9:00am to 4:00pm, the 36th Annual Sugar Bush celebrates the coming of spring and pays homage to the 200-year-old tradition of making maple sugar. Fuel up with a hearty pancake breakfast, and enjoy a variety of children’s activities, wagon rides, live demonstrations, and more.

Live the Rock Star Life
