The 2019 Maritime Gift Guide
Foodies, Adventurers, Art-Lovers, and more — our 2019 Maritime Gift Guide has something for everyone.
It’s that time of year again, the air is cooler, the days are shorter, and the Holidays are nearly upon us. If you’re scratching your head wondering exactly what to get for everybody on your nice list this year — our annual Maritime Gift Guide can help! We’ve put together an assortment of East Coast delights that are sure to please even the pickiest of loved ones!
For the Wine Connoisseur
Nova Scotia is famed for its seafood, blueberries, hiking trails, and impeccable ocean views. However, did you know that this coastal province is also home to many top-quality, award-winning wineries. And if you find yourself shopping for a “wine buff” then you’ve come to the right place. In fact, when you make your way to the Annapolis Valley, you’ll find a variety of vineyards. Known for their long grape growing season, the cooler temperatures of the region help produce light-bodied whites that combine the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Our suggestion? The signature “Tidal Bay”, this aromatic and fresh wine is best paired with Nova Scotia’s fresh seafood and scallops!
You won’t have trouble finding a Tidal Bay at any Nova Scotia Vineyards. Some of our favorites include Gaspereau Vineyards, Luckett’s Vineyards, Avondale Sky, and Planter’s Ridge. And, of course, once you have the wine you need something to drink it out of! Halifax’s NovaScotian Crystal is Canada’s only maker of mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal. With one of a kind stemware, it’s the perfect addition for the wine-lover on your list.
For the Sweets Lover
If you ask us, maple syrup is as Canadian as the Maple Leaf. And in New Brunswick, the climate, soil, and thick maple-tree covered forests make it perfect for finding the “sweet stuff”. The province is full of family-owned Sugar Shacks that create the most delicious candies, taffy, syrups, and more. All of which make perfect stocking stuffers or gifts for the person with a sweet tooth on your list!
For the Foodie
Some call Prince Edward Island “Canada’s Food Island”, and for good reason. Though small, PEI has no shortage of tasty bites to be had. And if you’ve got a foodie to shop for, you’ll want to check out PEI Preserve Co. Build a customizable “Taste of the Island” food basket which includes many island favourites such as Anne of Green Gables Chocolates, Island Gold Honey, Cows Chips and Cheese, Fortune Bridge Brinery, and much more. They’ll be snacking and savouring all holiday season!
For the “Artiste”
From theatre, musicals, symphonies, live music, and everything in between — if you find yourself shopping for a lover of the arts, then the Maritimes has you covered. Season passes to Halifax’s Neptune Theatre, Charlottetown’s Confederation Centre, or Fredericton’s Theatre New Brunswick, are sure to be a hit for those looking for new and fun ways to immerse themselves in all things artistic. Why stop there? Each Maritime province is also home to amazing symphonies that are sure to be music to anyone’s ears. There’s Symphony Nova Scotia, Symphony New Brunswick, and PEI Symphony Orchestra — all of which offer yearly programs that will thrill and delight any music lover.
For the Adventurer
When shopping for adventure seekers, it’s all about the experience over material possessions. There is no better place to create unforgettable memories than New Brunswick’s own Cape Enrage. With tickets available for a plethora of thrilling experiences from ziplining, repelling, and group adventures — Cape Enrage provides the perfect opportunity to let your inner daredevil out while catching the most incredible views of the Bay of Fundy!
Of course, we couldn’t make a Maritime Gift Guide and not mention one of the greatest gifts of all — the gift of travel. And with convenient crossings to all of the Maritime provinces, booking a trip on the ferry is the perfect gift no matter who you’re shopping for. Happy holidays!
