What to Expect

Keeping You Safe While Sailing on Fundy Rose

Bay Ferries Limited has taken measures to keep you as safe as possible while still enabling you to move about the ship, enjoy a snack or meal, get some fresh air – like you always could. We ask that you be conscientious of the safety of others by wearing a face mask/covering at all times except when eating and drinking while seated.

Know Before You Go

Bay Ferries Limited has introduced new safety measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and provide a safe ferry voyage between Saint John, New Brunswick and Digby, Nova Scotia.

The New Normal

We’ve taken a series of measures to help enforce safe social distancing and have implemented a contactless check-in process.

Make a Reservation

All customers — including walk-ons — must make a reservation online at ferries.ca or by phone at 1-877-762-7245 at least 1.5 hours ahead of departure times. With our reduction of passenger capacity, this measure will reduce disappointment, help us plan daily loads for safe distancing, and helps us trace contacts should there be a future need.

Walk-on passengers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Saint John Terminal – No Parking

The Saint John Terminal parking lot is currently under construction. As a result, unfortunately, there will be NO PARKING of any passenger vehicles at the Saint John Terminal Facility until construction is complete. Any vehicles left unattended will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Bring a Face Mask/Covering

Face mask/covering are mandatory except when eating and drinking while seated. Please refer to the guidance from the Government of New Brunswick for additional information.

Practice Good Personal Hygiene

During the voyage, please follow proper hand washing procedures and use the supplied hand sanitizer when needed.

Terminal Buildings

Terminal buildings will remain open so that passengers can access the washrooms and as a waiting area for walk-on passengers.

Passengers must wear a face mask/covering before entering, while inside and when seated in the Terminal building.

Pet Kennels

There will be no company-provided kennels and pets will be prohibited on passenger decks. At this time, pets must remain in vehicles.

We are unable to accommodate walk-on passengers who are travelling with pets at this time.


Additional protective measures and operational assurances have been initiated to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved with the transfer of personal luggage. Please review the passenger guidelines for the luggage handling service here.


Don’t Miss the Boat

Passengers are advised to check-in at least 1 hour and 15 minutes before departure to allow time for the additional screening procedures implemented for everyone’s safety.

New Brunswick Questionnaire

Anyone entering New Brunswick (including New Brunswick residents) will be required to complete a self-declaration questionnaire and provide a copy of the completed form at the first point of entry to the province. Self-declaration questionnaires will be provided to passengers at the Digby Ferry Terminal.

Effective Thursday, October 8, 2020, travellers entering New Brunswick from Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia will no longer be screened when entering New Brunswick by land or by sea via the Saint John Ferry Terminal thus self-declaration forms are not required.

All passengers travelling on Fundy Rose will be subject to screening questions by Bay Ferries during check-in.

Travelling to Nova Scotia

Atlantic Canadian residents are required to show proof of residency when entering Nova Scotia such as a government-issued identification card, driver’s licence, passport or a utility bill or bank statement that shows their permanent home address. Atlantic Canadians entering Nova Scotia are not required to complete a Nova Scotia Safe Check-in Form (self-declaration). Travellers from outside Atlantic Canada who have already self-isolated in another Atlantic Canadian province for 14 days, may enter Nova Scotia without self-isolating again and do not need to complete a Nova Scotia Safe Check-in Form (self-declaration). Learn more 

Additional Screening

Passengers will undergo a mandatory screening for health and travel history by our check-in staff. Please allow additional time for these new check-in procedures. Passengers responding yes to any of the following four screening questions, may not be permitted to board.

  1. Do you have a fever and a cough?
  2. Do you have a fever and breathing difficulty?
  3. Have you been refused boarding in the past 14 days due to a medical reason related to COVID-19?
  4. Do you reside outside of the Atlantic provinces and are you transiting to a 14-day self-isolation period?

Passengers responding NO or refusing to answer the question below, will not be permitted to board.
Are you in possession of a face covering that covers your mouth and nose, and do you agree wear the face mask/covering at all times except when eating and drinking while seated.

Experiencing Symptoms
If you are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms, we recommend contacting 811 before travelling.

Waiting Area

Once cleared for travel, vehicles will line up in the parking lot. Passengers choosing to leave their vehicle are required to wear a face mask/covering.

Walk-on Passengers

Walk-on passengers arriving by vehicle can be dropped off at the Terminal building and may proceed to the outdoor waiting area available in Digby or inside the Terminal building.

Only passengers requiring assistance will be allowed to use the passenger van for embarkation or disembarkation. All others must walk.

Walk-on passengers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Remaining in Vehicle

All passengers travelling with a vehicle will be required to exit their vehicle upon embarkation and will be required to wear a face mask/covering at all times except when eating and drinking while seated. Please refer to the guidance from the Government of New Brunswick for additional information.

Allowing passengers to remain in vehicles on passenger vessels was a temporary change in federal regulations due to COVID-19 and is no longer permitted effective October 1, 2020.

Once Onboard

We have placed arrows on the floors of the passenger decks to direct traffic flow to enable safe distancing.

Our Crew Cares

Our staff has diligently increased the frequency of cleaning and sanitization practices during and between voyages, as dictated by public health guidelines.

Sail Safely

We have provided adequate room for physical distancing with clearly identified, designated passenger zones onboard. Please follow the directional arrows onboard, stay with your group or family and limit movement by remaining in these designated seating and standing areas.

There are five designated passenger zones:

  1. Movie Lounge (Deck 6)
  2. Midship Sip Café (Deck 6)
  3. Rose Fortune Lounge (Deck 6)
  4. Acadia Eatery (Deck 6)
  5. Crow’s Nest (Deck 7)

Please follow the instructions of crew regarding seating assignment and movement aboard the vessel. Our crew is always available to render additional assistance if required.

The Business Centre and Little Mates Children Play area is closed. Children 13 and under must remain with their guardian at all times.

Face Coverings

Face masks/coverings are mandatory except when eating and drinking while seated. Please refer to the guidance from the Government of New Brunswick for additional information.

Keep Your Distance

Once onboard, please maintain a distance of 2 meters (6 feet) from staff and passengers not in your immediate party. There is additional directional signage onboard to facilitate safe distancing.

Amenities and Services

Fundy Rose is happy to provide you with a variety of amenities of services while sailing. This includes:

  • Food Service: Midship Sip Café and Crow’s Nest (weather permitting),
  • Movie Lounge,
  • Visitor Information Centre,
  • Outdoor seating on Deck 7 (weather permitting)

At the present moment, the Music on the Bay, Seaside Experiences, Little Mates Quarters, and Bay of Fundy Educational programs have been cancelled.

WI-FI is limited onboard (only able to access text, email and calling). We recommend downloading entertainment prior to your travel to enjoy onboard.
