The mornings are getting cooler and the landscapes are getting warmer — a sure sign that fall is in the air on PEI. From walking along the beautiful beaches in peak sweater weather to enjoying the local island flavours of food and drink, there’s an autumn activity for everyone. Here are some of our favourite ideas to make the most of your time here on PEI this fall!
There’s something about strolling through the rows of trees surrounded by the brisk air and the lingering smell of ripe apples and hay bales that feels just right. Plus, nothing signals fall like the first bite of a crisp apple you picked right from the tree. Visit one of the many local orchards on PEI and dream of the delicious baked goods you’ll whip up with your very own hand-picked apples!
One of our favourite times of the year is harvest season! And what better way to celebrate than heading to a farmers market? Fresh greens, hearty root vegetables, and mouth-watering, freshly baked snacks aren’t the only great things about market season — the lively atmosphere, friendly people, and chatting with the community farmers makes the experience!
Be sure to check out a PEI market or two while you’re here, and be extra sure to take some of the local harvests back home to your kitchen to enjoy fresh or in a fall-favourite fare.
What better way to take in the golden hues of the season than with a glass of wine in hand? PEI is home to flourishing wineries like Island Honey Wine Company, Rossignol Estate Winery, and Matos Winery & Distillery. Tour the charming vineyards during harvest season and learn about the vines, unique varieties, and winemaking process while sipping on a glass of grape goodness.
Not a wine person? Check out one of the craft breweries with a view! There are plenty of breweries on PEI where you can enjoy a flavourful brew. Head over to Gahan House in Charlottetown for a pint of their seasonal pumpkin ale — a must-try to get into the fall spirit.
It’s no secret that PEI is known for the endless shorelines and gorgeous beaches, and that definitely doesn’t change when September rolls around! Walk along the red and white sand shores, explore the cliffs and caves, and take advantage of the quieter and less crowded beach season. Just remember to bring a cardigan or cozy blanket, a warm cider or latte (because, fall), and of course — your camera!
If you’re not up for an outdoor beach adventure, hop in your car and take a drive through the winding heritage roads and along the stunning coastlines. Drive a little slower than usual and take in the breathtaking colours and natural beauty of the Island.
What’s a vacation without some good food, right? Indulge in all your fall favourites during the PEI Fall Flavours Festival! From September 16 to October 10, local chefs, farmers, and producers will come together to create an incredible culinary scene. There’s a tasty treat for everyone — from the Deep Sea Fishing Onboard BBQ for the seafood lovers, the Food Hike for the adventure seekers, and Harbour Feast for the classic PEI culinary fans.
If you’re a foodie like us, you’ll definitely want to check out the Fall Flavours Festival — for the food, for the entertainment, and for the hospitable celebrations.
October is filled with creative restaurant menus and a bounty of harvest ingredients. Make your way through the Culinary Trail and discover an authentic PEI food experience. Fall is the perfect time to visit Canada’s Food Island.
One of the best parts about visiting PEI in the fall? The adventure of getting here! Hop on the mv Confederation or mv Holiday Island, sit back, relax, and get a head start on your Island getaway itinerary.
