Northumberland Ferries Limited
Two provinces separated by the sea. United by tradition.
Since 1941, Northumberland Ferries has been transporting passengers and their vehicles between Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. In fact, you probably remember taking the ferry as a child – it’s time to make those special memories again with your family! This 75-minute ferry trip runs across the Northumberland Strait between Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island and Caribou, Nova Scotia, just outside of historic Pictou. Walk or drive aboard our vessels – the mv Confederation and the mv Holiday Island – then relax, stretch your legs, and experience the beauty of the Maritime sea and sky.
WHAT TO DO IN NOVA SCOTIA AND PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
There is plenty waiting for you on both sides of the sea. In Nova Scotia, marvel at the world’s highest tides, legendary whale watching, majestic lighthouses, and extraordinary beaches. Nova Scotia has outdoor adventures, vibrant city life, and everything in between. Fall into PEI’s easy, relaxed pace and find out why this gentle island is famous for so many things: world-class golf, renowned culinary scene, literary heroine Anne of Green Gables, fun-filled festivals and events, and some of the most stunning beaches you’ll ever see. And of course, the Island’s signature red soil.
We’ve Joined Green Marine
We care about the waters we sail. They’re our playground and we’re committed to keeping them clean and safe. That’s why Northumberland Ferries has signed on with Green Marine, the largest voluntary environmental program for the maritime industry in North America.
Green Marine certification is a rigorous and transparent process, and the program offers a detailed roadmap to address key environmental issues such as air and greenhouse gas emissions, underwater noise, oily water, and garbage management. Learn more about the Green Marine program here.
