Attendants

Northumberland Ferries Limited offers a variety of services to aid guests with special needs.

If you are not self-reliant, a personal attendant may travel with you at no charge (self-reliance is defined as independent, self-sufficient, and capable of taking care of all personal needs during the voyage; such as eating, using the washroom or taking medication).

Attendant Requirements

If you have been approved to travel with a personal attendant, your attendant must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older;
  • Not be responsible for the needs of any other guest on the voyage including an infant or child;
  • Remain with, and be seated next to, the guest with a disability;
  • Be fully capable of attending to their own and the guest’s physical and mental care needs during the voyage. It is not necessary for this person to be medically trained.

If your personal attendant does not meet the criteria, you and your personal attendant will be denied transport until you are able to travel with a personal attendant who meets the criteria.

Regardless of vessel type, privacy necessitates that our crew will not assist inside the washroom, other than to offer stability as you enter and exit the washroom. You must lock and unlock the door or request the cabin staff to lock the door from the outside.
