A journey through the Maritimes is a great idea any time of year. Whether you’re exploring under the warm summer sun, with a cool autumn breeze at your back, through the enchanting winter snow, or with fresh eyes in spring, there’s something special about this part of the world. And thanks to MV Fundy Rose, it’s easy to explore this neck of the woods year-round! A ferry ride aboard MV Fundy Rose is the perfect addition to your upcoming adventure. If you’re planning a trip to Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, here are 10 reasons MV Fundy Rose should be part of your voyage.
The Maritime coastline is a beautiful sight to see. Aboard MV Fundy Rose, you’ll have the opportunity to view our ruggedly beautiful provinces from the water — just as European explorers did when they arrived centuries ago. These breathtaking views you can only see from the water will be a memorable part of your journey.
Anyone who spends a great deal of time on the water will tell you the Bay of Fundy is a fantastic spot for whale watching. This is especially true from June through October. From MV Fundy Rose‘s observation decks, you’ll have an opportunity to see a wide variety of marine life. In fact, you might even catch a glimpse of a whale calf.
If you want to get up close and personal with the marine life, Saint John and Digby are short drives from spectacular whale watching. If you’re travelling to Saint John, check out Jolly Breeze, while travellers heading to Digby should visit Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises.
If you’re a bird lover, taking the ferry between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick is a must. That’s because you’ll have the opportunity to pass through the Atlantic Flyway. The Atlantic Flyway is an important migration path for birds travelling south for the colder months. Over the years, approximately 360 different types of birds have been spotted in the Bay of Fundy Flyway. The viewing deck on MV Fundy Rose provides a fantastic opportunity for you to watch many different birds during their journey.
Not only will you experience views and ocean breezes on the ferry that you can’t duplicate on the highway, you’ll also arrive at your destination much faster. The ferry ride between Digby and Saint John is just over two hours — less than half the time it takes to travel by car. A journey you’ll never forget, combined with more time to take in the sights at your destination? Sounds like a perfect combination.
A long drive can be tiresome, but a ferry ride offers time to relax and recharge before you hit the road. A favourite activity amongst many of our travellers is to sit back in our movie lounge to watch a film everyone will love. Grab some snacks, kick your feet up, and enjoy family time before you start the next leg of your journey.
The Maritimes are known for their many scenic drives spread across the region. Travelling by ferry will get you to these famous routes quickly. When you step off MV Fundy Rose in Saint John, you can immediately start the River Valley Scenic Drive. Throughout this 500-kilometre journey, you’ll uncover the rich history of the Saint John River Heritage Corridor. Travellers arriving in Digby should hit the road for the Digby Necks and Islands Scenic Drive. This drive includes stunning lighthouses, sandy beaches, and plenty of opportunities to visit the unique coastal towns that make Nova Scotia such a memorable place.
Aboard MV Fundy Rose, you’ll find three fantastic spots to fuel up — Tides & Valleys Café, Midship Café, and the Crow’s Nest (open in the summer weather permitting). These establishments offer a delectable assortment of food that’s perfect for every meal of the day. So whether you’re looking for tried-and-true favourites like hamburgers and sandwiches, salads, hot beverages, or a tasty brew, you’ll find it aboard MV Fundy Rose.
The Treasures Gift Shop carries a wonderful assortment of local souvenirs to mark your journey. Crafts, accessories, music, and food are just a few of the items you can find in Treasures Gift Shop, making it the best spot to pick something up for yourself or someone special.
We’re happy to announce that the Bay of Fundy Education Sessions are returning in 2023 — offering you a whole new way to explore the Bay! We’ll have educators from Stonehammer Geo Park onboard from June through August to give presentations about the Bay of Fundy that are equal parts informative and entertaining. Travellers of all ages can expect to learn more about how the Bay of Fundy was formed, the marine life that calls the Bay home, and historical exploration. Best of all, these award-winning bilingual programs will be offered on select peak season sailings.
Also returning in 2023 is our Music on the Bay series. Picture yourself on the water with your family, enjoying a nice meal, when a local artist takes to the stage to regale you with stories and songs from the Maritimes. The Music on the Bay program will feature a wide variety of artists showcasing their talents during select crossings throughout the summer.
The ferry is a delightful experience any time of year. Between the ocean breeze, the colours of the coastline, and the adventures awaiting you on either side of the Bay of Fundy, a trip aboard MV Fundy Rose is one you’ll want to take again and again.
