Bay Ferries Limited and Northumberland Ferries Limited Announces Appointment of President and Chief Executive Officer, Mark Wilson

Bay Ferries Limited (BFL) and Northumberland Ferries Limited (NFL) announced today that Mark Wilson has been appointed the new President and Chief Executive Officer for the companies.

“Mark Wilson has a proven track record, strong leadership abilities and wealth of experience in the marine transportation sector,” said Danny Bartlett, Vice Chair of the companies’ ownership group. “He was recruited three years ago by our late Chairman and CEO Mark MacDonald as part of a well-considered and developed succession plan. We are confident in Mark Wilson continuing to lead, manage and sustain our companies safely and efficiently with a focus on our people.”

Wilson has been with the companies since May 2021, starting as Vice President Marine Operations, becoming Senior Vice President in July 2022 and Acting Chief Executive Officer in August 2023.

“For the last three years at BFL and NFL, I was very fortunate to have been mentored by Mark MacDonald. He was passionate about the companies and even more passionate about the people who are the foundation of the companies. They are big shoes to fill, and he will be deeply missed on so many levels,” said Wilson. “Both BFL and NFL have deep roots and a steeped tradition in the Maritimes and marine transportation sector, and I am committed to continue to strengthen and grow the important services we provide to our customers and communities we serve.”

Wilson grew up in South Rustico, Prince Edward Island, and obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. In 2016, Wilson completed the Stanford Executive Program from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

Prior to his career in the marine transportation sector, Wilson served 23 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, with increasing senior engineering responsibilities and active service in the Persian Gulf. He then spent 11 years in various senior executive positions at BC Ferries. During this time, he worked six years as Vice President, Engineering, through which he held overall asset management responsibility for the company’s 36 vessels and 45 terminals and oversaw several major terminal and vessel construction and rebuild programs. He was also Vice President, Strategy and Community Relations.

Wilson’s appointment at BFL and NFL is effective immediately.
