Five Reasons to take MV Fundy Rose on Your Next Vacation

When it comes to travelling in the Maritimes, there’s something special about arriving at your destination by ferry. It’s an adventure, an awesome way to make memories with the whole family and most importantly, it’s convenient! That’s right, the journey between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick doesn’t have to involve hours behind the wheel. MV Fundy Rose offers a scenic, stress-free shortcut across the Bay of Fundy, turning travel time into part of the adventure.

Whether you’re heading to Digby for rural relaxation or arriving in Saint John for a city escape, taking the ferry means less driving, more unwinding and a whole lot of Maritime charm along the way.

Here are five great reasons to make MV Fundy Rose part of your next getaway.

1. Less Driving

BFL Terminal

Did you know that the strip of land dividing Nova Scotia and New Brunswick is called the Isthmus of Chigneto? If it’s been a while since your last geography lesson, let us give you a refresher—an isthmus is a narrow stretch of land with sea on either side, linking two larger landmasses. Some other famous isthmuses you may have heard of include the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal.

While the Isthmus of Chigneto is one of the many beautiful and unique natural features of the Maritimes, we also have to be honest, sometimes it’s just plain annoying to drive all the way across it.

This is where MV Fundy Rose comes in.

When you travel aboard MV Fundy Rose, you’re taking advantage of the Maritime’s natural geography by cutting across the Bay of Fundy, eliminating hours of driving.

2. Lots of Dining Options

Getting tired of the same old road trip fare? We get it. There are only so many gas stations and drive-throughs you can go through before your meals start to feel repetitive.

Fortunately, aboard MV Fundy Rose, we offer full breakfast, lunch and dinner menus from Tides & Valleys Eatery, with plenty of variety for each. Whether you’re in the mood for something light and healthy, like a salad, or hearty and filling, like fish and chips or a classic Canadian poutine, we've got you covered.

If you’re looking for a snack or your much-needed caffeine recharge, Midship Café is the place to go, offering a complete selection of coffees, espresso drinks and teas, along with fresh-baked pastries and desserts.

Finally, if you come aboard during the summer months, you’ll be able to enjoy Crow’s Nest, our fully licensed deckside bar where you can sip ice-cold drinks and enjoy light snacks and appetizers while enjoying the fresh sea breeze.

3. Optimal Comfort

It’s the middle of summer, and you’re finally on your long-awaited Maritime vacation — complete with a car full of luggage, kids, pets, outdoor gear and not a lot of room to stretch your legs! Luckily, travelling aboard MV Fundy Rose means there’s plenty of space to stretch out, relax and let somebody else take the wheel. It’s a journey that’s more than just convenient, it’s comfortable. Simply park your vehicle on the car deck, and then enjoy the vessel’s lounges, gift shop and cafe for the duration of the 80 kilometre journey. Stroll along the deck, or curl up with a good book in one of the many seating areas. Any pets you’re travelling with can remain in your car or the kennel area, and you’ll find designated relief areas at each terminal, meaning everyone in your party can enjoy a comfortable journey.

4. New Scenery

Many roads and highways brag about their seaside views, but we’re willing to bet none are truly as scenic as MV Fundy Rose.

Departing from Saint John, you’re treated to a retreating city skyline as the ferry sails along the rugged rocky coastline, lined with pine trees. Then, as you pass Musquash Head Lighthouse, the view opens up to the vast Bay of Fundy, where the ocean stretches as far as the eye can see. If you’re lucky, you can catch glimpses of humpback whales breaching, seabirds soaring and playful porpoises racing the boat as it crosses the bay.

Finally, just as the sight of the New Brunswick coastline fades, you start to see the high rolling hills of Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley. You pass more lighthouses and coastal scenery as MV Fundy Rose enters the Annapolis Basin and docks at our port in Digby. Someone else is at the wheel so why not take it all in, snap some pictures and preserve your memories.
