You strain your eyes, looking off into distance. Hoping every wave, every ripple is more than just that. And then you see it. Maybe you hear it first. A swoosh. A spray of mist. And the squeal of delight of your friends, family, and fellow passengers. Coming face-to-face with a whale is an experience you won’t soon forget. Off in the distance or up close, diving or playing. Some of the best whale watching is found in PEI, NB, and throughout the province of NS—Cape Breton’s famous Cabot Trail, and along the stretch from the beautiful South Shore near Lunenburg to the city of Halifax. But the prime spot is the Bay of Fundy (accessed from New Brunswick or Nova Scotia), a marine paradise because the waters are important feeding grounds for whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals, and seabirds. Watch for humpbacks, huge finbacks, friendly minke and if you’re lucky, Atlantic white-sided dolphins or the rare North Atlantic right whale. But whale watching tours aren’t just about the whales. Breathe in the fresh ocean air, soak up the breath-taking scenery, and just enjoy this incredible moment.
